Down East Sunrise Trail Relay
RACE OVERVIEW

Maine's first & ONLY all night relay!
2018 • Fifth Edition

The Down East Sunrise Trail Relay starts in Ellsworth, known as the Crossroads of Down East Maine, and finishes in Eastport, the Eastern Most City in the USA.

The extremely scenic route is 102.7 miles in length, with the first 85-miles run along the multi-use, rails-to-trails corridor connecting Washington Junction to Ayers Junction. The relay route continues on MAP206, another rails-to-trail surface. The final miles are paved along scenic Route 190 before finishing in historic Eastport.

Teams of 4 to 8 runners will run thru the night and into the next day in individual relay legs ranging from just under 4 miles to just over 10 miles and finish at our NEW fabulous seaside post race celebration held in downtown Eastport!

NEW FOR 2018!

We are very excited to announce some amazing updates for our 2018 edition!

  • Leg 15 has changed!

We are thrilled to have received the blessing of  Passamaquoddy Tribe who have granted us permission to run along their Sipayik trail and thru Pleasant Point Reservation.
What this means is as teams exit the DEST trail at Route 1 in Perry instead of turning right and heading up the hill to run toward Eastport on Rt 190, runners will cross Rt 1 and continue on a car free paved trail into Pleasant Point. The Leg 15 hand-off location is in the same spot as all previous editions. For more info click HERE.

  • Leg 16 and our finish line has changed!

This is the biggest news of all! We have a new finish line located in downtown Eastport! The new route will still take in a circuit of town (albeit a slightly different loop) before runners finish near the world famous mermaid and fisherman statues overlooking Eastport Harbor!
The overall length of the DEST Relay is still 102.7 miles!
For more info click HERE.

  • New fabulous finish line & town-wide festival!

The Eastport Area Chamber of Commerce and Quoddy Bay Lobster are excited to announce that they will be preparing and serving an optional lobster or chicken BBQ dinner! Both meals include potato salad, corn on the cob and dessert. For more info click HERE.
